CP round-up: Wins for Brazil, Scotland and the Netherlands

Sunday 21 Jun 2015
England's CP stars were special guests at Edgbaston for the T20

England's Cerebral Palsy football team enjoyed a day-off on Sunday, and made the most of it after being invited to Edgbaston to take in a game of T20 cricket.

Special guests of Warwickshire County Cricket Club, the Three Lions were treated to an enjoyable afternoon of the fast-paced and fun-filled version of the game.

And they witnessed a dominant display with bat and ball by the home side, who beat Yorkshire by six wickets.

CP World Championships

Day six
Northern Ireland 3-3 Argentina
Canada 1-4 Netherlands
Brazil 6-0 USA
Scotland 5-0 Venezuela

Back at St. George's Park the football continued.

Argentina produced an incredible late fight back to draw 3-3 with Northern Ireland and ensure that they finished as runners-up in Group D.

Two goals in the last four minutes from captain Rodrigo Lugrin and substitute Mariano Morana cancelled out efforts from David Leavy, Ryan Walker and Jordan Walker.

Scotland strolled to comfortable 5-0 victory against Venezuela

The point proved pivotal as it moved the South Americans ahead of Canada into second place, and broke Northern Ireland hearts.

The late fightback consigned them to fourth spot in the group, when for much of the game they looked set for a place in the quarter-finals.

Way out ahead in Group D, Holland put four past Canada in the other fixture.

Canada began the game brightly, and opened the scoring in the first minute with Sam Charron slotting home.

However Iljas Visker,  Peter Kooij, Jeroen Saedt and Lars Conijn fired back for the Oranje

The result was cruel on Canada who, despite producing a brave display, also failed to progress to the last eight.

As the Cerebral Palsy World Championships are positional, both Northern Ireland and Canada will remain at St. George's Park and play one-off games against other non-qualifiers as countries bid for rankings points.

In Group C a Martin Hickman hat-trick and goals from Jamie Mitchell and Darren Aitken helped Scotland storm to a 5-0 victory over Venezuela to secure third spot.

Brazil breezed past USA to clinch top spot in Group C and set up tantalising quarter-final tie with bitter-rivals Argentina.

USA could not cope with Brazil’s speed of play as the Samba style lit up St. George’s Park, much to the enjoyment of the crowd.

Fernandes, Ubirajara, Jose Carlos, Felipe Rafael  all got on the score sheet, as well as Wanderson who bagged a brace.

Brazil take on Argentina in the last eight at 1pm on 24 June. USA will face Netherlands at 10.30am on the same day.
