The Clarets earned a trip to Nottingham Forest courtesy of Brandon Wilson’s first-half strike and second-half goals from Jamie Frost and Bradley Jackson.

Having dominated since the opening, the hosts eventually broke the deadlock three minutes before the break. The ball fell to Wilson at the edge of the area, and after shifting the ball out of his feet, the Australian midfielder rifled home the opener.

Frost, who had just come off the bench, doubled Burnley’s advantage when he slotted home at the far post after a fine solo run and cross from the impressive Jackson.

Cardiff gave themselves a lifeline on 82 minutes when Jamie Veale curled in a fantastic free-kick from 20-yards, but any hopes of a comeback quickly evaporated.

With three minutes left on the clock, Jackson ended their Cup dreams as he broke forward before sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to settle the tie.

There are four FA Youth Cup fixtures this evening, all with a 7pm kick-off:

Liverpool v Derby County
Everton v Southampton
Arsenal v Royston Town
Swansea City v Doncaster Rovers
