19 coaches embark on an exciting new opportunity
This week, 19 brilliant, aspirational coaches met at St. George’s Park to officially become the newest cohort on our FA Coach Development Group programme.
Now in its second year, this initiative supports coaches from under-represented backgrounds prepare for The FA Level 4 (UEFA A) in Coaching Football by bridging the gap through a combination of mentoring, networking, and bespoke learning events. The group is led by Butch Fazal, The FA’s coach inclusion and diversity manager:
“We’re absolutely delighted to have these 19 brilliant up-and-coming coaches in this year’s group.
“This is a key programme for The FA and BAME coaches in addressing the significant under-representation of black, Asian and female coaches in the game
“Our aim will be to provide them all with quality, meaningful and regular support and development opportunities throughout the season so they’re able to keep progressing and continue improving as coaches.

Another important feature of the group is that each member can share their experiences within football with FA coaches to help shape FA education’s direction in tackling inclusion and diversity in the game.
At her introduction to the group, The FA’s Head of Education Lucy Pearson, urged every member to make the most of the opportunity:
“I hope you have a fantastic experience as part of this group”, she explained.
“Get the most out it. Take exactly what you need to help you develop as a coach and keep talking to us about how we can help you.
“Network, pick each other’s brains, collaborate - be brave about it and make the most of the opportunities available to you.”
It was a message that landed positively with Trishan Patel, Biggleswade United’s Assistant Manager.
“It is great to witness first-hand The FA reaching out and connecting”, he said.
“These crucial interventions are vital to support and develop all coaches.”
the day also coincided with one of the live blocks of The FA Level 4 (UEFA A) course taking place at the national football centre.
The group were invited to join the practical session and observe what the course experience is like for learners.
