England Under-21s boss Gareth Southgate has named a 24-man squad for this month’s games against Czech Republic and Germany.

The Three Lions head to Prague on Friday 27 March where they will face this summer’s Euro Championship hosts before returning to Middlesbrough for a match against fellow Euro Finalists Germany on Monday 30 March.

Southgate has been able to bring Arsenal defender Calum Chambers and Everton’s John Stones into his squad, as preparations for this June’s tournament intensify.

Former U19s captain Chambers was picked by Southgate previously last October, but has never been capped at that level after initially joining Roy Hodgson’s senior set-up as a replacement.

Stones was a regular in Southgate’s defence during the early Euro Qualifiers, but his last U21s appearance came a year ago in the win over Wales in Derby, before his impressive performances for Everton earned him a move into the senior set-up.

There is also a first U21s call-up for Southampton left-back Matt Targett, who has been a regular at St. Mary’s this season and for Aidy Boothroyd’s U20s squad.

He has been joined in the group by Saints team-mate James Ward-Prowse, who missed the last two England get-togethers through injury but is now back to full fitness and featuring for Ronald Koeman’s side.

Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard is also back in the squad for the first time since last May after injury ruled him out of the fixtures so far this season, before a loan move to Derby County has seen him back in action of late.

Striking options are bolstered by the return to the squad of Saido Berahino, who missed November’s games when he was called into Hodgson’s senior ranks.
