Middlesex Football Association has today announced a landmark moment in English football history with the appointment of Philina Toiny as Chair, joining Kayleigh Saunders, CEO, and Barbara Bivens, President. This marks the first time that a County Football Association is led at the highest levels by three women - a ground-breaking milestone that reflects the rising influence of women in football leadership.
Inspired by the historic achievements of the Lionesses, who successfully made it back-to-back wins at EURO 2025 in Switzerland after a thrilling final win against Spain, and the rapid growth of women’s football nationwide, Middlesex FA’s new leadership team embodies a commitment to equality, diversity, and the continued development of grassroots football across the county.
Philina Toiny, the newly appointed Chair, said: "It’s an honour to lead Middlesex FA alongside Kayleigh and Barbara, two trailblazing women whose dedication to the game is unmatched. Together, we are passionate about building an inclusive football community that reflects the diversity of Middlesex and inspires the next generation of players, coaches, and leaders."
Kayleigh Saunders, Middlesex FA CEO, added: "This moment is about more than just leadership; it’s a symbol of progress in a sport that has long been male-dominated. We are proud to show that football is for everyone, and our leadership team is committed to making sure opportunities are accessible to all, especially girls and women."
Barbara Bivens, Middlesex FA President, shared: "The Lionesses have changed the game and captured hearts across the nation. Middlesex FA’s leadership reflects that spirit of breaking barriers and striving for excellence - on and off the pitch."
This historic milestone comes as women’s football continues to surge in popularity following England’s Lionesses’ success on the international stage.
