Comfortable Crystal Palace down Doncaster Rovers to make fifth round

Crystal Palace won by the same scoreline as when the two sides last met in the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup in 2019

Crystal Palace set up a meeting with Millwall in the Emirates FA Cup fifth round after a 2-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.

Against the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, Daniel Munoz opened the scoring as he stabbed home a deflection in the first half.

Justin Devenny netted his first FA Cup goal with a delightful finish to give the visitors a comfortable victory at the Eco-Power Stadium.

Crystal Palace looked to take control of the game in the opening stages with Daichi Kamada and Adam Wharton posing problems.

The experienced Billy Sharp helped to bring Doncaster into the contest as he fed the ball to Ethan Ennis on the edge of the box but the Manchester United loanee could only send a tame effort at Matt Turner.

Teddy Sharman-Lowe played with authority in the Rovers net, coming out to claim a Palace corner before safely hoovering up a ball in front of the on-rushing Kamada.

However, there was very little the goalkeeper could do when Munoz tapped in the opener for Palace on 31 minutes.

Kamada’s training ground set piece delivery found Jean-Philippe Mateta unmarked, but the Frenchman struck the post.

To his relief, Munoz steered the rebound home from a Sharp deflection to take the lead.

Doncaster then showed they were a threat as Luke Molyneux powered to the edge of the D and unleashed a shot that went just wide.

The visitors almost doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when Kamada’s free-kick was messily cleared away.

Sharman-Lowe was put under pressure immediately after the restart as Devenny was found by Mateta but the midfielder miscued his shot to keep Doncaster just in the game.

More last-ditch defending was needed minutes later as Joseph Olowu stopped the always-dangerous Mateta from getting a shot off at close range.

Devenny eventually made amends in the 55th minute as he was found by a lob from Will Hughes before the Northern Ireland international struck a sweet shot on the bounce to double Palace’s lead.

The game grew quieter as the challenge grew larger for Doncaster before Molyneux again sparked flickers of belief as his curling shot just failed to dip below the crossbar.

Chances came for both sides in the closing stages as Caleb Kporha and Jordan Gibson both took heavy touches when in on goal to see the tie end on an exciting note.
