The 'flat-cap derby' did not disappoint as Atherton Laburnum Rovers (LR) stunned neighbours Atherton Collieries 5-2 in the first round qualifying of this year's Emirates FA Cup.
LR play their football in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division, one division below Colls and had not recorded a victory over their rivals since 2013.
But Owen Green, Harvey Sample, Elvis Amoakwa, Joe Bacon and Kieran Alley were all on target at Crilly Park to end that streak and claim bragging rights.
LR started the brighter of the two and broke the deadlock after just ten minutes when Green headed George Chadwick's delivery into the bottom corner of the net.
Harvey Sample then doubled his side's advantage 20 minutes later following a goalmouth scramble before Amoakwa headed home from Abiola Obasato's corner to hand LR a healthy three-goal cushion at the interval.
Colls midfielder Chinedu Uche pulled one back for his side from the spot after the restart, only for LR to restore the deficit through a penalty of their own just moments later, with Bacon on-hand to convert.
With five minutes left on the clock, Alley further added to LR's advantage with a 25-yard strike before Colls forward Tom Bentham scrambled home a late consolation.
LR manager Dave Jones spoke before the match on the significance of the fixture and how it highlights that the magic of the cup is still going strong.
“It's great for the football club and for the town in general, an opportunity for the community to get down and support both clubs, said Jones.
“There used to be three divisions between us but over the last few years we've crunched that gap down to one. Over the last few years we've crunched that gap down to one.
“It was 13 years since LR managed to beat Colls and the opportunity to play them doesn't come around often, let alone in an FA Cup game and the challenge is to try and change that recent history.
“It was probably 10 years ago the club couldn't dream of being involved in the FA Cup, let alone playing against their rivals at its own ground.
“It shows the magic of the FA Cup is still there.”

The Romans sit two tiers below seventh-tier Weymouth in the English football pyramid but advanced at their opponents' expense after goals from Kieran Rodgers, Alex Miller and Scott Costello.
Elsewhere, there was late drama at Salters Lane as hosts Faversham Town forced a replay against Hastings United following a 2-2 draw.
The U's had thought they won it after Charlie Paye's 90th-minute strike, only to concede an own goal at the death, meaning the two sides will have to do it all again.
And over at Parkside, three first-half goals saw Aveley get the better of Hashtag United in an all-Essex clash.
