Debbie Hewitt confirmed as new FA Chair from January 2022 following FA Council ratification

Debbie Hewitt MBE has been confirmed as the new Chair of The Football Association and Leader of Council, with effect from January 2022.

The FA Board’s nomination of Debbie Hewitt, which was announced last month, has now been formally ratified following a full meeting of the FA Council on 22 July 2021.

Debbie Hewitt MBE said: "I would like to thank the FA Board and Council for their support and endorsement. It’s an honour to be confirmed as the new Chair of the FA and Leader of Council and I’m looking forward to getting started in the role in January 2022. It’s an important time for English football, with an opportunity to work alongside all stakeholders to make a positive difference at all levels of the game."

The FA’s interim Chair and Leader of Council, Peter McCormick OBE, will remain in position until Hewitt takes the role no later than January 2022, at which time he will resume his position as Vice Chair, on behalf of the professional game.

In addition, Tim Score has been confirmed as interim Senior Independent Director on the FA Board. Score, who is Independent Chair of the FA’s Audit Committee, was an Independent member of the selection panel which led the recruitment process for the new FA Chair.

He is also Chair of British Land, Senior Independent Director and Chair of Audit Committee at Pearson, and Non-Executive Director and Chair of Audit Committee at Bridgepoint.
