Gareth Southgate has added Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Conor Coady to his England squad for the forthcoming UEFA Nations League Group A2 fixtures against Iceland and Denmark.
Fresh from marking his 23rd birthday with man-of-the-match performance in Arsenal's FA Community Shield win, this will also be Maitland-Niles's first involvement with the seniors. The versatile player is another product of the England player pathway and was a member of the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup-winning squad.
Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Coady has previously represented his country at youth level, captained the Young Lions to the 2010 UEFA European U17 Championship title. This is the 27-year-old’s maiden call-up to the senior squad.
The pair are scheduled to meet up alongside the rest of the squad at St. George’s Park next week. The Three Lions face Iceland in Reykjavik on Saturday 5 September at 5pm BST, before travelling to Copenhagen to play Denmark on Tuesday 8 September at 7.45pm BST.
