Football-themed Christmas presents helped fuel our Lionesses’ passion for the beautiful game – and your festive purchases this year could help inspire the next generation of England international.
Lucy Bronze, the UEFA women’s player of the year, found a pair of boots under the tree when she was younger – and they remain a firm favourite to this day.
She said: “That was probably my main Christmas present ever. [Those] boots were my pride and joy for a long, long time.
“I didn’t really get a lot of football kits, I didn’t get a lot of boots; we didn’t have a lot of money. But I absolutely adore them.”
Meanwhile, Nikita Parris was overjoyed by the Liverpool shirt she received one year.
She explained: “I always found that the best surprise came in the littlest presents. Whether it be a ring, a necklace, and then one year it was a Liverpool shirt.
“I couldn’t really believe my eyes. I think I put it on over my pyjamas and that was it, I didn’t take it off.”
