The 2020 Emirates FA Cup Final will take place on 23 May

Step 3 sides entered the Emirates FA Cup as the preliminary round kicked off with 160 ties and 549 goals.

Friday night saw nine fixtures take place with Mickleover Sports enjoying the most comfortable progression to the first qualifying round. James Cadman scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Coventry Sphynx.

Sutton Common Rovers also won 3-0 against Eastbourne Town. Goals from Aidan Brown, Liam Holden and Matt Farrell sent the Combined Counties League Premier Division side into the first qualifying round for the first time.

Thornaby won 2-1 at Whickham in a tense finish that saw Carl Finnigan miss a late penalty for the hosts.

And there was drama in injury time at The City Ground, too, as Matt Palner earned a replay for Stoneham at Winchester City in a 1-1 draw.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Badshot Lea, Barking, Blackshot & Langley, Rothwell Corinthians and Whitehawk.

Saturday saw four intriguing ties between Step 3 and Step 6 sides with the minnows away from home in each case.

Peterborough Sports brushed aside Bugbrooke St. Michaels 7-0. Cameron Johnson and Avi Viera both scored braces for the current South Central League Division One champions.

Bowers Pitsea beat Barkingsdale 4-2. Lewis Manor was amongst the scorers for the Bostik League side.

Bromsgrove Sporting also went through. Two goals inside the first three minutes from Shaquille McDonald and Charlie Dowd were enough to beat Leicester Road 2-1.

But Stalybridge Celtic were held to a goalless draw at home to West Didsbury & Chorlton in one of the surprises of the day and must now come through a tricky replay at Brookburn Road.

The most dramatic game of the day saw North Leigh come from 4-3 down at Aylesbury Vale Dynamos with just a minute left. George Seacole equalised before Tyriq Hunte hit the winner two minutes into added time. Hunte also missed a penalty, but the Southern League Division One Central side still qualify for the next round.

Elsewhere, the most common tie of the preliminary round must take place once again after Bedworth United drew 1-1 with Halesowen Town. It was the seventh meeting at this stage of the competition between the two teams.

Heanor Town and AFC Mansfield also went to a replay. The pair drew 0-0 at Town Ground. Both sides scored seven goals in the last round but played out a stalemate in a tight encounter.

Along with Peterborough Sports, four other sides did manage to hit seven. Chichester City won 7-2 at Bridon Ropes and Basildon United thrashed Framlingham Town 7-1. Kurt Smith scored twice for the hosts, including one straight from a corner kick. Thatcham Town beat Andover New Street 7-1, while a Steve Murray hat-trick helped Bridgwater Town to a 7-0 victory at home to Brislington.

And Wembley – the closest side in the draw to Wembley Stadium – are out following a 3-2 home loss to Berkhamsted. Lewis Tommey scored twice for the visitors and also missed a late penalty to deny him a hat-trick.

Meanwhile, Tom Murphy scored a hat-trick as Cray Wanderers cruised past Hythe Town on Sunday.

Dunstable Town beat Shorewood United 4-1. The hosts are hoping to reach the first round for the first time since 1956-57 when they lost to Margate.

Eversham United edged past Harefield United 2-1 with Kai Tong scoring twice for the Southern Division One South side.

And FC Romania and Ware will need a replay to decide their tie after a thrilling 3-3 draw. Lawrence Neruba gave The Wolves an 89th-minute lead only for Karden Cambell to equalise seconds later.

All victorious sides will receive £2,890 from The FA prize fund.

The draw for the first round qualifying will take place at 1pm on Tuesday 27 August.

This season's Final will take place at Wembley Stadium on 23 May 2020.
