Jodie Taylor top-scored with five goals at Euro 2017

Jodie Taylor has notched goals for teams in five different countries – but there’s one place she’d love to score more than anywhere else; her beloved Tranmere.

The 31-year-old may get the chance to fulfil a lifelong dream when England entertain Russia at Prenton Park on Tuesday 19 September.

Taylor spent eight years with Tranmere Rovers, from youth team through to the first eleven, but never had the chance to play on the pitch.

England v Russia
  • 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup
  • Group One qualifier
  • 7pm, Tuesday 19 September
  • Prenton Park, Tranmere Rovers
  • Tickets priced £10 adults, £1 children
But all that could change as the Lionesses gear up for their opening 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifier.

“When I was told we were going to be playing at Prenton Park I was really excited,” said Taylor, who was first spotted by Tranmere playing in a school tournament when she was just eleven years old.

“The club is close to my heart. They were my first team before I went to America to start my travels and they always looked after me really well.

“They paved the way for the career I’ve had and taught me the essentials that have helped me become who I am now. A lot of the coaches are still there, a lot of my old team-mates are still involved at the club, and that shows just what kind of club Tranmere Rovers is.”

The Euro 2017 top scorer continued: “I’m excited to be going back.

“Every man and his dog that I know will be at the game – my family, friends – and that will make it an even more special night.

“I grew up a Liverpool supporter, but also supported Tranmere, so this is a place I’ve spent a lot of time, though I’ve never actually played here in a match before.

“To finally play on the pitch in a real game, instead of being in the stands, especially representing my country as well, I’ll be really pumped.”

Tickets for the Russia match are priced £10 for adults and £1 for children, and can be bought via TheFA.com/Tickets, by calling 03330 144452 (option 1) or in person at Prenton Park.
