Swansea City train

Swansea City trained at the national football centre last Friday.

Paul Clement’s squad, featuring England forward Tammy Abraham, completed their preparations for the weekend match at Stoke City in East Staffordshire, having travelled up from South Wales early that morning.

They utilised the performance centre and trained on the site's pitches.

Speaking ahead of the trip, head coach Paul Clement said: "A lot of our journeys for Saturday games are done on a Friday afternoon, fighting through the traffic, and that all takes its toll on the players.

"So we decided to go up early in the morning, miss the traffic and train at St. George’s Park.

"It is something a bit different but it is more the logistical side of things because it is a struggle.”

300 children meet Lionesses

Over 300 school children flocked to St. George’s Park to see England’s Women at an open training session last month.

Youngsters from the Walsall and wider West Midlands area watched interim boss Mo Marley put the Lionesses through their paces.

After an entertaining session, which included a competitive 11-v-11 training game, the players posed for photographs, signed autographs and chatted to their fans.

The squad, featuring newcomers Keira Walsh and Leah Williamson, spent nine days in East Staffordshire in preparation for their two World Cup qualifiers, against Bosnia and Kazakhstan.

The group cheered on the Lionesses as they saw off Bosnia & Herzegovina 4-0 at Walsall's Banks's Stadium.

Bent stars in Derby U23 victory

Derby County U23s returned to winning ways as goals from Darren Bent and Luke Thomas earned a 2-1 comeback win against Middlesbrough in the Premier League Cup at St. George’s Park.

Hayden Coulson's header gave the visitors an early lead only for Bent, returning from an injury absence, to level before the in-form Thomas secured the points in Group A.

The Rams’ youngsters return to East Staffordshire next Monday – they host Chelsea in a Premier League Two clash.

Potters edged out

Stoke City U23s were on the wrong end of a five-goal thriller as they contested their latest Premier League Two match to be staged at the national football centre against Reading.

The Berkshire side’s Josh Barrett netted either side of Tyrese Campbell’s equaliser for the Potters.

England U18 forward Danny Loader put the Royals in control before Shola Ayoola scored a late consolation goal to set up a tense finale.

Glyn Hodges’ City return to St. George’s Park on Saturday where they host Aston Villa.

British Triathlon: Top young athletes descend on St. George’s Park

A number of the nation’s highly-ranked talent athletes once again descended on the national football centre as part of a British Triathlon Federation programme.

Following their October visit, athletes aged 15-18 who are being considered for the England Talent Triathlon Programme attended St. George’s Park as part of the ongoing England Talent Education Programme.

The weekend was based around culture and values, physio, strength and conditioning, nutrition, education and screening.

The hydrotherapy facilities were also utilised for light recovery.
