Winners receive £600 for progressing

Charnock Richard FC are celebrating their first win in Buildbase FA Vase history, with a 2-0 victory over Whickham seeing them qualify from the first qualifying round in Newcastle.

Goals in each half from Sam Parkinson and Carl Grimshaw was enough to prevail, with a trip to Harrogate Railway the prize – a whole new experience for the side from Lancashire.

Parkinson profited from neat work from Lewis Swarbrick, who set up Daniel Smith for a swinging cross, while Grimshaw sent the travelling fans into jubilation with less than 25 minutes to go, Smith again providing the assist for a tap-in.

Elsewhere, St Margaretsbury also roared into the second qualifying round – but were thankful to a 45-yard screamer from Ryan Wade setting them on their way against Codicote FC.

The striker took aim from a dead-ball, with the keeper unable to stop the pile-driver, the first in a 3-0 success to set up a trip to Halstead FC in the next round.

Goals were also aplenty for Bridlington Town, putting six past Yorkshire Amateur FC in a thoroughly-dominant display on the coast.

Joel Sutton’s double secured the victory – the second coming from a curling free-kick – enough to overcome their Yorkshire rivals, who have been in existence for less than 18 months.

A 19-minute hat-trick from Lynton Goss ensured Thame United also progressed, the first three of a commanding 5-1 win over Tadley Calleva, where Melvy Nsomi and Andy Gledhill also found the net.

Rocester FC and Corsham Town both prevailed via penalty shootouts – electing not to play replays against Redditch Borough and United Services Portsmouth respectively, while Beckenham Town got their work done in 90 minutes, prevailing 4-1 at Dorking.

Finally, Litherland Remyca will face Vauxhall Motors in the second qualifying round, courtesy of victory against City of Liverpool, and Black Country Rangers edged past Stafford Town 1-0.
