Herne Bay and Skelmersdale through in FA Trophy

The FA Trophy Final will take place on Sunday 22 May 2016

Midfield dynamo Joe Nelder struck twice as Herne Bay beat Walton Casuals 3-2 in The FA Trophy first round qualifying replay.

Nelder edged his team ahead on 20 minutes but Luke Medley had the home side back on level terms on 35 minutes.

Shortly before the interval, Nelder struck again to reassert Herne Bay’s advantage.

Mark Lovell gave the visitors a two-goal buffer when he pounced 15 minutes from time with John-Prince Rylah’s 90th-minute strike coming too late to be anything more than a consolation.

Skelmersdale United are through to the second round qualifying following their 1-0 win over Hyde United in Wednesday night’s replay.

Saturday’s tie finished 3-3 and though the replay was scheduled to be played to a finish on Monday, heavy fog forced it to be abandoned after 22 minutes.

Skelmersdale boss Tommy Lawson would have been cursing his luck when he had to field a team missing several key players who were stuck in traffic en route.

Yet fortune finally swung in their favour as it was to be an own goal that saw them progress.
