Jess Clarke reflected on a job well done following England’s 3-1 win over Finland in the opening match of the Cyprus Cup.

Notts County striker Clarke smashed home the third goal from close range after Finland failed to clear Alex Scott’s cross.

She was also pivotal to the Three Lions’ second goal, pulling the ball back for Eniola Aluko to volley into the far corner.

Clarke said: “We have done a lot of work in the classroom and I think that showed on the pitch today.

“We managed to control the game and I thought we were very creative going forward. We have managed to implement the stuff we have learnt and that is credit to us.

“It’s nice to get the win and that will give us confidence going into the next game.”

The 25-year-old said she was happy to bag her 11th goal in her 48th international.

She added: “It was really nice to get on the scoresheet. It’s been a while since I scored for England. I’m absolutely delighted.”

England's second group game is against Australia on Friday.
