Onomah targets first-team breakthrough after signing new Spurs deal
Tottenham Hotspur’s academy product Josh Onomah is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Harry Kane, Ryan Mason and Andros Townsend after signing a new deal with the club.

The England Under-18s midfielder penned a new contract this week which ties him to the club until 2019, extending his stay with club he joined as a nine-year-old.

Having seen senior Three Lions internationals Kane, Mason and Townsend all progress from the academy into the first-team at Spurs, Onomah has set his sights on a similar breakthrough.

“Harry, Nabil [Bentaleb], Ryan and Andros are inspirational for us. They have all come through the academy and they have all given us belief, they have shown that it is possible. It's great to be around them, to ask their advice and learn from them day to day,” he told TottenhamHotspur.com.

"I'd love to follow in their footsteps. I just want to play for Tottenham for many years to come."

The 18-year-old, who helped the Young Lions win the European U17 Championship last summer, was handed a senior club debut by boss Mauricio Pochettino in The FA Cup against Burnley.

The Argentinian manager handed him a further opportunity to impress during post-season friendlies in Malaysia and Australia.

Having been a fan of the club since a child, Onomah is looking forward to gaining more experience this season.

"I've been going to White Hart Lane since I was nine, watching the games, feeling the passion of the fans, it just makes you want to pull the shirt on and be out there," he added.

"Making my debut last season was an amazing feeling, a massive moment for me and I just hope I can experience it more and more.”
