Futsal Grand Finals line-up taking shape

Tuesday 06 May 2014
The line-up for The FA National Futsal League Grand Finals is taking shape
Manchester Futsal Club secured their place at the Grand Finals with a scintillating 13-1 victory over Birmingham Futsal Club at the Birmingham International Futsal Arena on Sunday.

The result means The FA National Futsal League North champions now cannot be caught at the top of Super League Group A after notching their highest goal tally of the season.

Meanwhile, the defeat leaves Birmingham anchored to the bottom of the table ahead of their clash with fellow strugglers West London Futsal next weekend.

It was a good weekend for Baku United FC too as they booked their place at the Grand Finals without even having to kick a ball, after University of Bath Futsal Club and Sheffield Futsal Club could only manage a 4-4 draw.

That result means neither side can catch the London-based outfit at the top of Super League Group B, with Bath and Sheffield both now eight points adrift of Baku.

Their clash at Concord Sports Centre next weekend now has nothing other than pride at stake for both sides.

And while Manchester and Baku were celebrating, it was a weekend to forget for Middlesbrough Futsal Club who suffered a 4-19 mauling at the hands – or should that be at the paws – of Oxford City Lions Futsal Team.

It’s a result that rules them out of the running for a place at the Grand Finals, and leaves Helvecia Futsal Club and the Oxford City Lions locked together on six points each at the top of Super League Group C.

Though the rout leaves Oxford with a superior goal difference, Helvecia have a game in hand and know that a win against Middlesbrough side next weekend will put them in the driving seat in Group C.

In Group D, Loughborough Student Futsal Club went into the weekend’s action knowing a win would secure them a place at the Grand Finals.

But they had to settle for a point after a late goal rescued a 2-2 draw for the Midlanders against FC Baltic United at the Sir David Wallace Sports Hall.

Instead Loughborough will now have to travel to Liverpool next weekend in search of the point they need to claim top spot in Group D, knowing that if they slip up FC Baltic can still usurp them and claim the spot at the Grand Finals.
