Eight local clubs to receive a helping hand this summer
Grassroots football clubs in need of a DIY SOS will receive a helping hand this summer thanks to The FA’s new ‘Self Help’ Facility Improvement Programme.

Supporters, friends and families are being invited to volunteer for a weekend of fun-filled DIY to help eight local football clubs give their facilities a much-needed make-over this June and July.

AFC Winscombe enjoyed a fantastic weekend of improvements during an initial pilot for the programme in 2011, which also helped enhance the club’s standing in the local community.

And Andrew King, The FA’s facilities and investment project officer, is hoping for more of the same this summer.

"At a local level, this programme will make a real difference in meeting the needs of grassroots football clubs as determined by them,” he said.

"It will value volunteers and provide a platform to generate new volunteers for participating clubs."

The participating clubs and dates are as follows:-

Middlezoy Rovers FC (Somerset): 14 and 15 June
Junior Reds FC (London): 8 June
Bassingbourn Youth FC (Cambridgeshire): 14 June
Northallerton Town FC (North Riding): 14 and 15 June
Worthys Youth FC (Hampshire): 21 June
Earls Barton United FC (Northamptonshire): 19 and 20 July
Ledbury Town FC (Herefordshire): 13 July
Turton FC (Lancashire): 12-13 July
