Jess Clarke has been called into the England Women’s squad for next month’s World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in Shrewsbury.

The Notts County forward replaces club mate Ellen White, who faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after rupturing a cruciate ligament in her right leg in a pre-season friendly against Durham.

Notts County manager Rick Passmoor said: "It’s a blow for us, and for Ellen, but we’ll be working hard to get Ellen back to fitness and we look forward to welcoming her back into the team.

"It’s a setback but it gives the opportunity for other players to step up into the role - Jess has started really well for us playing upfront."

Clarke has made a blistering start to the domestic season, netting three goals as the Magpies soared to the top of FA WSL 1.

The 24-year-old’s last international appearance came in the 4-0 win over Turkey in October last year. In all, Clarke has scored 10 goals in 43 caps.

England currently sit top of their World Cup qualifying group having won all five matches so far without conceding a goal.

Last time out they eased to a comfortable 9-0 dismissal of Montenegro in Brighton, head coach Mark Sampson’s first home match in charge.

Tickets for the Ukraine qualifier are still on sale, priced £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions.
