Mastering the body

Guide 5 - 11

It’s important for all players to develop their physical literacy.

Young children are born to move, so they’re ready for coaching that challenges them to do this. If we provide activities that are fun, enjoyable and competitive, then levels of engagement and effort will remain high.To develop a full range of movement skills, players need to experience a wide variety of opponents and situations – both with and without the ball. They need to learn what their body is capable of, e.g. feints and disguise when travelling quickly with the ball or when trying to lose a marking player.

This practice incorporates all these elements, and is one that can be adapted for players of all ages.
