Session 12 - 16

SESSION: creativity in the final third

  • 01 October 2018

In this session, former England Women’s assistant coach, Marieanne Spacey-Cale, and FA regional coach development manager, Julie Chipchase, work with a group of girls in the youth development phase (12-16) to improve combination play in the final third.

    Key objectives

    Develop player understanding of:

    • how to retain possession to build attacking moves
    • how to regain possession to initiate counter-attacks
    • effective decision-making: positioning, choice of pass, support play, control
    • effective receiving skills.

    QUESTIONS
After you have watched this, ask yourself the following questions:

    • How would you adapt or tweak the practice to make it appropriate to your own players?
    • What additional challenges could you set to make the practice easier or harder for individuals or your group?
