SESSION: goalkeeping - defending the space in behind

Former FA national goalkeeper coach, Jack Robinson, delivers a goalkeeping session with a group of grassroots players at St.George’s Park.

    Key objectives

Players will develop their understanding of:

    • goalkeeper positioning: angles and distances
    • reacting to passes played in behind the defence
    • creating an effective relationship between the goalkeeper and defenders.

    Reacting to cues and triggers

After you have watched this session, ask yourself the following questions:

    • How would you adapt or tweak the practice to make it appropriate to your own players?
    • What additional challenges could you set to make the practice easier or harder for individuals or your group?
