If you have aspirations of tutoring education courses on behalf of The FA you must first apply for an FA Affiliate Tutor licence.

Our FA Affiliate Tutor licences cover the full breadth of education areas across the grassroots game - including coach education, medical, safeguarding, and refereeing. Details of each licence will vary in terms of qualification requirements, minimum delivery and expected rates of pay, all of which is outlined within the licence requirements document’s hosted further down this page.

Tutors are affiliated to a county or region and this denotes the area in which the minimum delivery requirements should be delivered. While The FA licenses tutors, you would be employed or contracted to work by approved centres, the majority of which are County FAs.

To apply for an FA Affiliate Tutor licence you will need to submit an application form during one of our three recruitment periods during the season. Application forms will be made available during each recruitment phase. Recruitment is needs-based and therefore each recruitment phase will vary depending on location and licence types required.

 Application dates 19/20

  • 7-23 October 2019
  • 3-19 February 2020

The process will vary depending on the type of licence you apply for. The first stage for all licences is the application form. This gives applicants the opportunity to evidence their skills and experiences against the requirements of the licence they’re applying for.

Applicants are scored against a shortlisting matrix and the strongest are taken to the next stage. The second stage of a coach education licence application involves a face-to-face interview and other assessment tasks.

For other licence types the next stage will often be a phone conversation and an opportunity to observe a course if you haven’t done so already. It is common that you would then co-tutor a course to assess suitability. Successful applicants are not fully licenced until they are tutoring independently.

The application process ensures a fair and transparent approach to tutor licencing across every area of education. However, as all open applications are created by regional demand, there are only a limited number of licences available during each recruitment phase.

The application process, therefore, determines the most appropriate selection, in what is a highly competitive recruitment process. As an open process, the focus is on evidence provided by individuals through their application forms, and it’s application to the role of an FA affiliate tutor.

If you're successful in securing an FA Affiliate Tutor licence you will be supported by a Tutor Developer or County Coach Developer (CCD).

They will be your main point of contact and will work with you to develop your tutoring skills and will always support your ongoing professional development.

Tutor Developer’s and CCD’s will also complete development visits for each tutor allocated to them and will help support initial training with newly recruited tutors.

Due to the volume of applications we receive, we are unable to provide feedback at application stage.
