Sport England, the national organisation that supports grassroots sport, welcomes the opening of St. George’s Park and its potential to get even more people playing football.
The development of St. George’s Park represents a new chapter for football in this country, bringing elite and community football together in one place, allowing teams to share first-class facilities and the sporting expertise on offer.
With National Lottery funding from Sport England, this fantastic facility will play a vital role in developing coaches across a range of sports as a national centre for coach education. Great coaching is key in inspiring people to not only take up the sport but in keeping them playing. It is places like St. George’s Park that will help us achieve this.
We will continue to work with The FA to increase the use of this facility by other sports. Sport England is committed to developing football in England and has awarded The FA £25 million to get more people, in particular young people, involved in the sport ensuring that football remains a lifelong sport of choice for many. An additional £5 million is being invested to develop the next generation of talented disabled and female players.
