Slaven Bilic: Emirates FA Cup win will 'go down in history'

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic urges his side on in their replay with Liverpool

Slaven Bilic hailed West Ham United’s Emirates FA Cup win over Liverpool as "one of the greatest nights" in the club’s history.

A last-gasp goal from Angelo Ogbonna in the second period of extra time was enough to prevent a penalty shoot-out and seal a fifth round trip to Blackburn Rovers.

And with this being the final season at the Boleyn Ground before the Hammers move to the Olympic Stadium, Bilic felt the atmosphere under the lights in east London was worthy of the occasion.

"This will go down in history as one of the greatest nights and greatest games for our club," he said.

"It is a special night. Tomorrow is a new day and we have to concentrate totally on Norwich, but tonight there is no harm in saying it's a special night for our club.

"We're so proud and happy for our players, it is a great night for West Ham."

The 2-1 victory sees Bilic’s side progress into the last 16 of The Cup and a game against Championship outfit Blackburn to come later this month in the next round.

But the Croatian believes his side are more than capable of advancing at Ewood Park if they can show the same level of performance again.

"We expect a tough game against Blackburn [in the next round] but if you play like this we are capable of beating any team," he added.

"I am so proud of the guys. They left their heart on the pitch.

"Okay, it is only for the last 16, but it was a late-night kick off, it's against Liverpool, it's our last season at Upton Park, it went to the 120th minute, and we scored a great header in the last second of the game, and we had injuries, and we overcame all of that."

West Ham’s fifth round game at Ewood Park takes place at 2pm on Sunday 21 February, live on BT Sport.
