Ipswich and Southampton replay their Third Round tie on Wednesday evening

Stephen Hunt has called on the Portman Road faithful to help cheer Ipswich Town to victory against Southampton.

The Tractor Boys take on Ronald Koeman’s side in an FA Cup Third Round Replay in Suffolk on Wednesday night.

And, following their 1-1 draw on the south-coast ten days ago, the midfielder says home advantage could make all the difference.

“It’s going to be a cracking atmosphere and we want to put on a display for the fans that are coming,” he said.

“We want people at Portman Road and we want to rock the place.”

The two sides were forced to go again after goals from Darren Ambrose and Morgan Schneiderlin ensured their first meeting at St. Mary’s ended all square.

And with the replay being played out in front of the TV cameras, the Irish international says it is important they put on a good show – as they did away against their Premier League opponents.

“We defended well in the first game and frustrated them a little,” he added.

“Hopefully, now it’s at our place, we can put them under a little bit more pressure and show what The FA Cup is all about.

“Someone told me that there will be around eight million viewers for a BBC game, plus a sell-out in the stadium, so it’s great to have all eyes on Ipswich Town at the moment.”

Southampton celebrate their win at Old Trafford - their first in 27 years

Meanwhile, Southampton will have learnt their lessons from the first meeting and are not underestimating the size of the task in hand, according to their manager Ronald Koeman.

“It will be difficult,” he said. “It was a difficult system to play against [in the first game].

"They had good defending and are physically strong, and it’s not easy to create a lot of chances against them.

“I think we have to learn from the first game and if we play like how we played in the second half then we have good possibilities to win the game.”

Southampton go into the game on a high after recording their first victory at Old Trafford in 27 years on Sunday.

And the former Holland international says the impressive result stands them in good stead for the Ipswich clash.

“Of course the win against Manchester United will bring a lot of confidence to the players," he added.

"Maybe it will be more comfortable [against Ipswich] but we know it will be a tough game.

“I wasn’t happy about the replay because we already play a lot. It’s a tough week but if you start a week like Sunday then it’s not so difficult.”

The game kicks off at 7.55pm, with Crystal Palace awaiting the winners.
