The likes of Radstock Town and Bath City were dispatched before the fairytale run was ended by third division Ipswich Town in ruthless fashion – the Tractor Boys running out 7-0 winners at Portman Road.
Current Street manager Dan Badman, 77 years on, is well aware of the club’s FA Cup history and as they prepare to face Witheridge in the preliminary round on Saturday, he admits that a similar run would mean everything to the club.

The Cobblers have already seen off Bishop Sutton 6-0 in the extra preliminary round this term and while their Cup form has been patchy in recent seasons, Badman claims they always target the world’s oldest cup competition as a chance for success.
"The FA Cup, for smaller clubs like ourselves, is always going to be big with the money involved and the excitement it can bring to the area," explained Badman.
"It’s a while since we had a good FA Cup run but you look at teams like Willand Rovers who reached the fourth qualifying round last year and you can see the excitement it brings.
"A Cup run would give you the kind of headline that brings more people in, which is the longer-term benefit – letting the people of Street know we’re competing in these exciting competitions and it’s on their doorstep.
"The FA Cup history at Street is something I’m aware of and some of the longer-serving players are aware of – there’s some memorabilia up around the club as well. There’s a squad photo and the club pennants."
Witheridge don’t have the FA Cup pedigree of Street – indeed last season was the first time they had entered the competition in their 94-year history – but their player-manager is a different matter.

Chris Vinnicombe is in his second spell in charge of Withy but, before that, he was part of the Wycombe Wanderers team that reached the semi-finals in the 2000-01 competition.
The third tier side captured the imagination of the nation as they downed the likes of Wimbledon and Leicester City, before narrowly going down 2-1 to Liverpool in the last four.
And former Rangers, Burnley and England Under-21 defender Vinnicombe hopes his experience can rub off on his charges at the Tannery.
"My FA Cup run with Wycombe is up there as one of my career highlights," he said. "I have been at a lot of clubs and achieved lots of different things and as you get older, you realise FA Cup runs are hard to come by.
"I am fortunate enough to still be playing at 44 and it is great to have the chance to play in The FA Cup again because it brings back great memories.
"In The FA Cup, it is a one-off game and anything can happen, which is something I will be stressing to my players.
"It is always nice when you can cause an upset, as I found out during my time at Wycombe. We upset a lot of teams on our way to the semis and when you think of Roy Essandoh scoring the winner in the quarter-final after apparently being signed on Teletext, it just shows that anything can happen."
