Speaking after her visit, Grant said: “It is fantastic to see the world-class facilities available to our athletes at St George’s Park, providing development opportunities for our men's and women's teams.

"In the modern game small margins are the difference between defeat and victory. I look forward to seeing the results in action this weekend as England take on Germany in front of a sell-out crowd."

Harrington added: “I was delighted to be able to show Helen Grant around today. It caps what has been an extremely busy few weeks for us, where last week alone we had eight of our national teams together at once.

"I hope the Sports Minister has seen on her visit the contribution St. George’s Park makes to football in England.”

A record crowd of 55,000 is expected at Wembley on Sunday as England begin their preparations for next summer's World Cup in Canada by taking on the reigning European champions.
