Stanway scores twice as England U17s put four past France

England Women’s Under-17s rounded off a successful 2015 with a comfortable 4-0 dismissal of France.

Alessia Russo opened the scoring in Duisburg, Germany just after the half-hour mark before Arsenal midfielder Anna Filbey notched her first England goal early in the second half.

And Manchester City youngster Georgia Stanway completed a notable win by netting two goals of her own.

Aston Villa’s Grace Smith and Blackburn Rovers’ Kelsey Pearson came off the bench for their international debuts.

In October, the Young Lionesses advanced to the final stage of Euro qualifying thanks to two resounding 13-0 wins, against Croatia and Estonia, and a 2-2 draw with Poland.

They have been drawn in Group 6 alongside Belgium, Iceland and host nation Serbia with only the top-placed team making it to the Euro Finals, which will be staged in Belarus in May 2016.
