Mark Sampson's England have won all six World Cup qualifiers to date

Head Coach Mark Sampson, midfielder Jade Moore and two-goal Natasha Dowie were happy with the patience England showed in their 4-0 win over Ukraine on Thursday night.

The Three Lions extended their perfect World Cup qualifying record to six wins from six, courtesy of Dowie’s double and a brace from Chelsea forward Eniola Aluko.

The Liverpool striker’s opener came just five minutes before the break, but Sampson said England were willing to keep plugging away until the breakthrough arrived.

He told FATV: "It was always going to be a game where wanted to start quickly and try and get an early goal, but if you don’t, you’ve got to be patient and wait for the right opportunity.

"The players had to show a lot of patience in the first half and in the end it was a good time to score really, just before the half-time interval. And just as importantly, I thought the players really took on the message we gave them at half-time.

"We saw the improvement in the second half, particularly in the first 15 minutes. We were rewarded with more goals and we really finished the game off.

"It was a very pleasing result and a very pleasing performance.

"We showed a lot of quality. You’ve got to give big credit to the players who stuck to the game plan and in the end ground a good team down.

"We can go into the last four away games confident we can get the job done and confident we can on the road to Canada."

Dowie was making her first competitive start on home soil, while Birmingham youngster Jade Moore was making her first start in this qualifying campaign.

And the duo were more than content with England’s performance in their final qualifier on these shores.

Dowie said: "We knew the goals would come and thankfully they did. As soon as we got the first one we were a lot more relaxed and we started to get the ball down."

Moore added: "It was hard at times but we stuck to the game plan, [kept doing] what we were good at and in the end got the result.

"We started to force it a little bit in the first half, but we had to take our time and wait. We had to be patient and it came just before half-time, the perfect time to score, and that set us on our way for the second half."
