Jill Scott's formidable presence in the centre of midfield has been a key asset for club and country over the past year.

The tall, powerful 27-year-old can turn defence into attack in a trice, possessing brain and brawn, as well as an eye for a pass.

One of the most experienced players in Mark Sampson's young squad, Scott played 12 times for England in 2014, taking her career caps tally to 86.

She scored her 13th international goal in the 9-0 win over Montenegro in Brighton, and has been outstanding for Manchester City since joining from Everton during the close season, helping them win the Continental Cup in October.

And while she has at times had to settle for a place on the bench amid stiff competition for midfield places with England, Scott has always remained a popular member of the squad and a natural leader.

Scott is one of 30 players who played for Mark Sampson's side during 2014 and is a contender for the Vauxhall England Women's Player of the Year.
