Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is enjoying his football at the moment – especially playing alongside Eric Dier.

The England Under-21s defender moved to White Hart Lane from Sporting Lisbon in the summer, making a goalscoring start to life in north London as notched on his first and second appearances for the club.

He began the season as a right-back before switching to centre-half, and his defensive partner Vertonghen has been impressed by his young team-mate.

"Eric is a brilliant defender, he’s only 20 but he’s been fantastic for us all season, first at right-back and then at centre-back," the Belgium international told TottenhamHotspur.com.

"I like to play alongside him, he talks well, defends well and he’s doing great at the moment. He’s a strong guy as well with good feet.

"I’m sure he has a great career ahead of him," he added.

Dier has been a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England U21 squad this campaign, and he may feature for the Young Lions in their upcoming clashes in Czech Republic and against Germany at the Riverside Stadium on Monday 30 March.
