Young Lions boss Southgate, who captained Boro throughout the most successful period in the club’s history, before taking the reins as manager in 2006, is delighted to be returning to his former stomping ground.

“It’s nice to be coming back. It’ll be nice to see some familiar, friendly faces at a time when the club are going well,” he said.

“I think the crowd does give the players a lift. A lot of them play in the Premier League so they’re used to playing in front of a crowd and it definitely gives the game an extra edge when they get it.

“At Wolves for our game with Croatia we got 25,000 and it really had a good effect on the team because we want to play good football, pass the ball and attack teams.

“The game against Germany is a good test because some of the teams we’ve played haven’t been able to stop us and they’re going to pose us different problems – that’s what we need to go through as a team before the summer really.”

Boro fans could also have the opportunity to see two of the club’s best performers this season, Ben Gibson and Patrick Bamford, wearing the Three Lions.

If you want to show your support for Southgate’s side then tickets can be purchased from the ticket office at the Riverside or by calling 0844 499 1234. Tickets are also available online
