Saido Berahino fires home for West Brom on Sunday

Joleon Lescott believes Saido Berahino has a special something that marks him out from the rest.

The England Under-21s and West Bromwich Albion striker is the leading English scorer in the Premier League after firing home his third and fourth goals in Sunday's 4-0 win over Burnley – and veteran defender Lescott likes what he has seen of the 21-year-old.

Lescott, 32, said: "[Saido] is going to be a top player, he has enthusiasm, he works hard and he has a bright future.

"His attitude is spot on, he works hard, loves the game and loves to score goals.

"He wants to be a top player and most top players want it more than others. He definitely has that ingredient."

Lescott, meanwhile, is enjoying a resurgence in form since his summer move from Manchester City to The Hawthorns, and has been named man of the match for the past two games as West Brom moved up to 10th.

The 26-times capped England international has formed an encouraging central defensive partnership with Craig Dawson.

And Dawson, 24 and a former England Under-21 international, has been rewarded with a three-year contract at West Brom.

Lescott said: "It's still early for me and Craig but we are starting to trust each other which helps.

"It's nice to be close. We're not like strikers where you rely on each others' individual brilliance, as a centre-half you need to be a partnership and understand each other."

“Craig is only 24 but he plays with a lot of experience and he is a top professional”

Lescott has not yet called time on his England career, but says he is happy to mentor Dawson and help him move up to the next level.

He said: "He has been here a long time. I know he is only 24 but he plays with a lot of experience and he is a top professional. If I can help him in any way I will.

"Craig has a lot of experience. He is still quite young and has a lot to learn, as do I - we are all learning every day. His main attribute is he wants to learn and if you've got that you will do well."
