Harry Kane celebrated his call-up to the England Under-21s squad with a goal for Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night, but it wasn't enough to secure victory in their Europa League clash with Besiktas.

The striker was named in Gareth Southgate's 23-man squad for the Euro play-off with Croatia on Thursday morning, before leading the line for Spurs at White Hart Lane.

Kane has also scored for England Under-21s this season

And he put the Londoners ahead in the first half with a finely-taken goal in the 27th minute, albeit against the run of play.

It did look as though that goal would prove to be the winner, but with the Turkish side mounting pressure in the later stages they drew level thanks to a penalty from former West Ham, Newcastle and Chelsea striker Demba Ba.

"I think we feel we wanted to come away with the win so to come away with a draw is very disappointing," said Kane.

"It's just unfortunate we couldn't hold on in the end.

"It's always great to get on the scoresheet, but I come away disappointed from this game because we wanted to win, that's football and we've got to move on.

"The manager wants to have competition for places and whenever I get the chance I want to impress him and try to score.

"Fortunately, I was able to do that and it's always good but we've got to move on from this result."

Kane was joined in the Spurs starting line-up by Under-21s squad mate Eric Dier whilst Andros Townsend also figured from the start after being named in Roy Hodgson's senior squad to face San Marino and Estonia.

Elsewhere, Everton drew 1-1 with Russian outfit FK Krasnodar, where Three Lions defender Phil Jagielka, John Stones and Leighton Baines all started.

And after falling behind in the first half, it was Baines who provided the cross to set up Samuel Eto'o for their equaliser in the 82nd minute.
