Adam Armstrong celebrates his first Newcastle United goal
Adam Armstrong was “over the moon” to score his maiden goal for Newcastle United’s first-team.

The England Under-17 international, who helped his country win the European Championship in May, came off the bench to score on Tuesday as the Magpies defeated Sydney FC 4-0.

A number of the clubs summer signings also made an impact, new boys Siem de Jong and Emmanuel Riviere joining Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Armstrong on the scoresheet.

“Good 4-0 win against Sydney,” Armstrong tweeted after the match. “Over the moon to have scored my first goal for Newcastle, hopefully first of many!”

Having made his Premier League debut for his hometown club in the last campaign, Armstrong is enjoying his first pre-season with the senior squad on their tour of New Zealand.

He says he has enjoyed it so far and that the new arrivals have ensured that there is a great mood in the camp.

“My goal is to get fit, all the lads want to get fit in pre-season,” he told Sky Sports. “We’ve come away to a different culture, it’s great.

“Seeing loads of new people come in has been great for us. Building the team, which is getting better and stronger, and we are doing well together.”
