Demarai Gray says he intends to “savour the moment” after scoring his first career hat-trick for Birmingham City.

The 18-year-old England U19 winger once again showed his huge potential as he racked up a 34-minute treble in the first half of Blues’ 6-1 victory over Reading on Saturday.

And for a Birmingham-born lad who signed on at St Andrews as a 10-year-old, it was a special moment.

“It's always nice to score goals but a hat-trick – that doesn't come around too often,” he told Birmingham City’s YouTube Channel.

“I've been here since I was a little boy so it was a dream – and we got the result to back it up. I can't ask for much more.”

He added: “I'll stay grounded. I'm humble. But you must enjoy these moments.”

Gray made his breakthrough for club and country last season, winning Birmingham’s Academy player of the year award and making his senior Blues debut, as well as drawing the attention of England’s scouts.

The former Cadbury Athletic player was called to train with England U18s last November and then made his debut for Neil Dewsnip’s side in the 4-0 win over Belgium this February.

This season he has graduated to Sean O’Driscoll’s U19s squad, coming on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Germany in Oberhausen.

And he has been a consistent member of Birmingham’s first-team squad this term, turning out 17 times and scoring four goals.
