England star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was on target in the Champions League on Wednesday, but couldn't prevent Arsenal from defeat against AS Monaco.

Arsene Wenger's men were already 2-0 down at the Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from France midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia and former Spurs and Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, before Oxlade-Chamberlain was introduced from the bench.

England Under-21s defender Jamaal Lascelles.

And he made the desired impact against the Ligue 1 outfit, as he pulled a goal back in the final minute to give the Gunners some hope ahead of their second-leg in the principality.

But Monaco had time to restore their two-goal advantage with a late strike from Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco ensuring it was a disappointing 3-1 reverse for Arsenal.

Three Lions Kieran Gibbs and Danny Welbeck featured from the start for Wenger's men, with Theo Walcott also appearing from the bench in the second half.

Elsewhere, England Under-21 defender Jamaal Lascelles was on target for Nottingham Forest as they picked up a 2-1 victory over Championship high-fliers AFC Bournemouth.

Former Under-21s midfielder Andrew Surman had given Eddie Howe's side an early lead at the City Ground, but Lascelles equalised with a low shot before another former Young Lion Henri Lansbury scored the winner with a free-kick in the second half.
