Robert Green makes a fingertip save for QPR against West Ham

England defenders enjoyed a fruitful Saturday in the Premier League as strikers struggled to hit the back of the net.

QPR goalkeeper Robert Green followed up his recent England recall with a clean sheet as the Rs held West Ham 0-0 at home.

In the wake of opposing manager Sam Allardyce saying Green could become the Three Lions No1, the 35-year-old put in another good display to keep QPR’s survival hopes alive.

England Under-21s right-back Carl Jenkinson also aided the Hammers' defensive cause with a confident display.

Elsewhere, Three Lions full-back Glen Johnson made it a trio of clean sheets as he helped Liverpool shut out West Brom 0-0 at the Hawthorns.

While forward Raheem Sterling may have struggled to make inroads, Johnson completed 90 minutes and helped the Reds keep a secure point.

Fellow England internationals Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana also appeared for Brendan Rodgers's side in the draw, as did England youngster Jordon Ibe.

In the day’s early kick-off, England duo Harry Kane and Ryan Mason completed 90 minutes as Tottenham drew with Southampton 2-2. England U21s defender Eric Dier laid on the assist for Nacer Chadli to score Spurs' second equaliser of the day.

Full-backs Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand started for Southampton, England Under-21s midfielder James Ward-Prowse completed an hour of action, while U20s schemer Harrison Reed was a second-half substitute.

In the day's evening kick-off Joe Hart played his part in Manchester City's 3-2 win over Aston Villa.

City, for whom James Milner came on after 57 minutes, had stormed into a 2-0 lead, but Fabian Delph-led Villa made it 2-2 before Fernandinho's late strike spared Manuel Pellegrini's side.
