Raheem Sterling believes if you're good enough you're old enough as Roy Hodgson looks to welcome in a new era of English football against Norway on Wednesday.

The international retirements of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard means Hodgson has put his faith in youth for the game at Wembley this week and then the first Euro qualifier in Switzerland next week.

At just 19-years-old, both Sterling and Calum Chambers are the youngest players in the squad, and the Liverpool forward believes the junior members of the group can shine as they look to learn from the elder statesmen in the Three Lions side.

"Me and Calum Chambers are the youngest members of the squad and we're here to try and impress the manager," he said.

"I don't really look at ages, I just try to play the game and do my best, I can learn a lot off the players here."

And former QPR man Sterling has backed Wayne Rooney to excel after being appointed England skipper as well as play either wide or centrally if it helps the team.

He added: "Wayne Rooney has been playing at the top level for many years. I'm looking forward to learning more off him and putting it into my game.

"I've played wide for Liverpool and England, as a young player you have to adapt. I'm learning every day - hopefully I can keep improving."
