Arsenal star Olivier Giroud says he’s got the taste for trophies after last season’s FA Cup success and Sunday’s Community Shield victory against Manchester City.

The Frenchman scored Arsenal’s third goal at Wembley after coming on in the second half as the Gunners deservedly beat the Premier League Champions.

And Giroud admits he wants to build on the momentum from both May’s Cup Final and Sunday’s clash with rivals City.

"When you start to win trophies, you want to win more," Giroud told TheFA.com.

"I signed for Arsenal to win trophies so I hope my second season will be superior and we can win a second trophy.

"Hopefully there will be some more soon."

The former Montpellier man netted the goal of the game on Sunday, smashing a powerful left-footer past City ‘keeper Willy Caballero to see Arsenal home.

But he admits there was an element of luck to his instinctive strike, which came after City were starting to get a foothold back in the game at 2-0 down.

"To be honest, I had a look at the ‘keeper and was thinking he was a bit too much forward from his line," added the 27-year-old.

"I tried to instinctively shoot at the target, so it was a bit lucky, but that’s what I wanted to do."

Olivier Giroud targets more silverware

Giroud was part of the French squad for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil and only returned to pre-season training two weeks ago.

But after featuring in the Emirates Cup last weekend and then with another 45 minutes under his belt at Wembley, he believes Arsene Wenger’s men are well set for the new campaign.

"I came back two weeks ago, but when I came back the squad were there with a really good commitment and a really good spirit," he revealed.

"So I have good feelings about our game and it was good to play in the games last week and today and I feel we will be maybe stronger than last year.

"We will see if we can reach our goals.

"Last week I was not ready, but this week I feel better and for the first game of the Premier League, I will be ready."

With new signings such as Alexis Sanchez, Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy all impressing in Sunday's Shield performance, Giroud is also convinced that Wenger’s latest additions can make Arsenal a tougher proposition this term.

"When we are all together with the full squad, there will be hard competition on the pitch and I think it will be good for all of the players and we will be stronger than last year," he claimed.

"We did well until March, but with a good squad in the quality and quantity, we will maybe do better."
