St. George’s Park demonstrated its unique ability to host the elite in world sport this week, as the home of England’s teams welcomed British Equestrian for a two-day review of the organisation’s World Class Programme.

The title of the event was ‘Pause. Reflect. Evolve’, with the themes and objectives broken down into those three subjects over the course of the two days in Staffordshire.

Participants at the conference were able to enjoy St. George’s Park’s stunning Hilton Hotel and the facilities on offer, which included vast space for meetings, talks and break-out sessions, in addition to the luxurious rooms for the overnight stay between the sessions.

The opening day, Tuesday 12 October, focused on pausing and reflecting on the sporting achievements of the past year, with groups breaking out to focus on the individual disciplines of para dressage, dressage, eventing and showjumping, and provide feedback and deliver insight. Later in the day, attention turned to functional areas and, based on participant feedback, reviewing operations for each discipline.

Day two, Wednesday 13 October, enabled Jim Eyre, British Equestrian’s Chief Executive Officer to address those in attendance, who also had the opportunity to hear from the World Class Programme’s leadership team and partners from UK Sport and Sport England.

The final part of the conference focused on the last element of the title – evolution.

Given time to reflect on the feedback delivered on the first day and the framework for the future outlined in Wednesday morning’s session, those in attendance were able to look at disciplines and consider what measures could be taken to improve the World Class Programme’s offering and ensure further sporting success, as British Equestrian looks towards the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sam Bradley, Head of Performance Support at British Equestrian, said: “St. George’s Park was a fantastic venue for our World Class Programme Conference. It is a unique setting and our team loved spending two days there.

“For the review part of our two days the spaces were perfect for both our larger plenary sessions and the small intimate group work – with rooms all in close proximity. We were also there to celebrate our recent success and were able to quickly transform the space into a gala dinner. If you are planning your next event, I’d highly recommend choosing St. George’s Park.”
