Three Lions to be based at St. George's Park for EURO 2020 and Southampton in March

Gareth Southgate is hoping home advantage can count extra for England this summer, with his squad's main base for UEFA EURO 2020 being at St. George’s Park.

The Three Lions squad will play all three of their EURO group games at Wembley in June and will spend time preparing before and during the competition at the national football centre in Burton.

And Southgate is pleased to have his squad’s usual base secured, with players and staff alike fully settled in their surroundings.

Gareth Southgate and his squad will be at Southampton in March and St. George's in the summer

"We'll be at St. George's Park, where we're really familiar with the surroundings, we're secure and we've got incredible facilities," said the Three Lions boss.

"In the tournament, we'll be going to London three times and there's not that long in a continuous stretch at St. George's so we're very conscious that the energy and environment is critical.

"There's a lot more that you can control around the training in particular, we're not having to go now and search for something like a hotel with facilities or a training ground and the logistics of all that.

"While the players are used to being at St. George's, we wouldn't want to be anywhere for one whole block of time without opportunity for people to come in and see their families."

The England squad trained at Staplewood in September ahead of their game at Southampton FC

In readiness for that, the England squad will prepare for their March internationals with Italy and Denmark at Wembley in Southampton.

After a positive experience in the build-up to the Euro Qualifier with Kosovo at St. Mary’s last September, a return to Southampton’s Staplewood training ground was viewed as an ideal option to offer the squad a fresh environment.
