England duo Ross Barkley and Callum Hudson-Odoi spoke of their joy at helping the Three Lions to victory in Montenegro.

The Chelsea pair were instrumental in the 5-1 win in Podgorica, with Barkley scoring twice and Hudson-Odoi proving impressive on his full senior debut.

“Hopefully I did well today,” said the 18-year-old.

“But it’s not about me, it’s a team performance and we did very well.

“We had a great mentality from the start and going behind was a disappointment, but we reacted strongly.”

Barkley turns home his first goal of the night in Podgorica

Barkley, who also made his England debut as a teenager back in 2013, had a night to remember too as he set up Michael Keane’s equaliser before scoring a brace to put the Three Lions 3-1 up.

And the former Everton man believes it was his best outing in an England shirt so far.

“Yeah, it was [my best night for England] for sure,” he said.

“I had a great night and to come away from home, Montenegro were always going to put up a test for us.

“We started really well, but we had to show character to come back and put in a positive performance.”

He was also full of backing for his Stamford Bridge team-mate Hudson-Odoi, having already witnessed the teenager’s ability at close quarters prior to his first senior call up.

“From minute one in the training sessions since he’s been here, he’s been top drawer,” revealed Barkley.

“Everyone’s been talking and a few of the lads were saying how good he looks and he fully deserves his start from how he performed in training.”
