Aylesbury Flooring take on Birstall Stamford in the 2019 FA Sunday Cup Final

This weekend Peterborough United will host the 55th Final of The FA Sunday Cup when Aylesbury Flooring take on Leicestershire’s Birstall Stamford.

The competition can trace its history back to the early 1960s, when Sunday football experienced a boom and a new name will go on the trophy as this is the first appearance in the Final for either club.

Aylesbury Flooring, who play in the Berkhamsted Sunday League, are managed by George Tomlin who believes his squad’s attitude has helped them to this stage.

“We have shown a tremendous togetherness and a lot of character,” he said.

“There have been matches where we have gone behind, but our team spirit has got us through. We have good individuals but they all work together as part of a team.”

And there’s a similar message from Birstall Stamford’s CEO Peter Barnsby, who has worked for the club for over 20 years as they compete in the Leicester and Charnwood Premier Division.

“The players really gel together as a team unit,” he revealed.

“There are a few characters but they work hard as a team, we are a decent side and the team spirit is good.”

Sunday’s Final kicks-off at 2pm at the ABAX Stadium in Peterborough and tickets are available on the day at £5 for adults and £1 for U16s.
