Knaresborough Town’s journey into uncharted Emirates FA Cup territory has been of huge financial significance to the non-League club and their local community, said chairman Peter Plews.

The north Yorkshire outfit are preparing for their first-ever appearance in the second round qualifying of the world’s most famous knockout competition.

They have seen off Ashington (2-0), Blyth AFC (5-1) and Kendal Town (7-3) to book an historic home tie against Workington AFC on Saturday 22 September.

The ‘Boro’ have already earned £11,140 from The FA prize fund with a further £9,000 up for grabs at the weekend.

And this money will go a long way to help with the club’s ambitious projects both on and off the pitch, all of which will positively impact the club and wider community for years to come.

Plews said: “There is a real buzz around the football club and local community and we’re enjoying every minute of our Emirates FA Cup adventure.

“The fact the competition prize fund has doubled this season gives us an additional incentive to try and progress as far as we can.

“The prize money available is crucial to a club like Knaresborough Town as it allows us to make meaningful and impactful upgrades to benefit players, fans and the wider community.”

The list of improvements Knaresborough are looking to make includes the construction of an additional 75-seater stand and resurfacing the car park as well as general improvements to both the pitch and changing rooms.

As Plews alluded to, this season’s Emirates FA Cup prize fund has been doubled to £30.2m and as a result, if Knaresborough were to progress to the first round proper they would receive a total of £60,190.
