I still remember when Bobby was first told he had cancer.
If it had been discovered earlier and he’d received surgery straight away, he may well have lived.
As it was, he survived for 20 months after diagnosis.
Ever since 1993, finding a way to beat bowel cancer, and raising awareness of the disease, has been my goal.
So I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved in those 25 years so far and we hope to do more.
I am also so grateful and proud that the FA chose to support the Bobby Moore Fund as their official charity partner in 2016.
It seems incredibly fitting that we should be in partnership, as Bobby’s first passion in life was football and his favourite stadium in the world was Wembley.
I know that Bobby would be incredibly proud of all that we will achieved together in his name.
Together, we are committed to developing a dynamic partnership that will inspire and reach fans across the football community.
And it’s thanks to all our many generous supporters that survival is improving and has doubled in the last 40 years.
Since the fund was started, mortality rates for bowel cancer have fallen by more than 30 per cent, but there is still so much more to do.
My hope is that by continuing to increase awareness and funding and reaching £25m, we can help to beat this terrible disease and many more lives can be saved in the future.
