Chichester City and Cardiff contest FA Women's Premier League cracker

Hollie Wride bagged herself a double in the 3-3 draw between Chichester City and Cardiff City

With many sides in County Cup action on Sunday there were just three games in The FA Women’s Premier League, with Fylde’s match against Middlesbrough postponed.

Twelve goals were scored across the three fixtures but who were the big winners on the day?

With that postponement the only fixture in the Northern Division was contested by Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town at Sir Tom Finney Stadium.

It was a game of missed chances for Rovers who went down 2-0, after trailing 1-0 at half-time.

NORTHERN DIVISION

There were no missed chances for Emily Heckler, the Huddersfield forward put her side ahead in the first-half and completed her double on 76 minutes with a wonderful volley.

Laura Carter also pulled off some heroics for Town, saving a 56th-minute penalty to protect the lead in an outstanding performance that moves Huddersfield up to second in the table.

SOUTHERN DIVISION

There was a cracking game in the Southern Division as Chichester City drew 3-3 with Cardiff City at Oaklands.

The visitors went 2-0 up but Jess Lewry fired back on 19 minutes and Hollie Wride brought Chichester back on level terms just before half-time.

Wride then doubled her tally for the day from the penalty spot, but Cardiff got back in the game on 74 minutes to ensure the points were shared.

Elsewhere, the match between Swindon Town and Lewes was all square at half-time, a 25-yard screamer from Lewes’ Sarah Kempson highlighting the first 45.

But after the break Lewes’ Georgia Bridges and Lisa Fulgence both got on the scoresheet, sealing a vital win for the south-coast side.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

There were just two goals in the game between Huddersfield and Blackburn as Emily Heckler proved to be the difference between the sides.

Her second strike was a thing of beauty, the striker volleying home from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner, putting the game beyond Blackburn.

GOAL OF THE WEEK

Has to go to Sarah Kempson, who got Lewes’ party started at Swindon Town with a first-half effort that set the tone for the game.

The forward made space for herself on the edge of the box before unleashing an unstoppable drive that flew into the top corner.
