Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane named Premier League player of the month for February

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has revealed a change of diet has been the secret to becoming the third England international this season to be named Premier League Player of the Month.

In three league fixtures played in February, Kane scored four goals, including a sublime hat-trick against Stoke City and he now leads the race for the Premier League’s golden boot with 19 strikes in 22 appearances.

The 23-year-old said: “It’s a real honour. It’s been a great month for me and the team.

“My diet has changed since January. I have got a new chef I have been working with to help me with my nutrition to get me a bit leaner and a bit quicker, so that seems to be working.”

Team-mate for club and country Dele Alli scooped the award in January, while Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling was named player of the month for August.

The trio will discover on Thursday if they have been named in manager Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming friendly in Germany and World Cup qualifier against Lithuania at Wembley Stadium.

The home tie takes place on Sunday 26 March, kick-off 5pm.
